The Union Power Charitable Foundation (UPCF) recently celebrated a milestone by awarding its first-ever grants to three organizations that align with UPCF’s mission of providing financial assistance to local nonprofit organizations and helping people in our communities. UPCF proudly recognizes Girls on the Run of Union County (GOTR), Stanly Health Foundation, and Turning Point Inc.
As UPCF continues to grow and support local nonprofits, we are excited to award these three organizations that engage, encourage, and empower the communities they support. UPCF continues its commitment to helping our local communities through these strategic partnerships.
Girls on the Run of Union County

GOTR has empowered girls in Union and Montgomery counties for many years. As a local nonprofit organization, they give back to girls in grades 3-8 with their mission of teaching them to be joyful, healthy, and confident. Their impact is made by a fun, experience-based curriculum creatively integrating running.
With the grant provided by UPCF, GOTR will provide scholarships to individuals who cannot afford to participate in the program and fund the proper footwear for girls in need.
Stanly Health Foundation
Dedicated to providing a profound influence, the Stanly Health Foundation creates impactful programs to benefit the health of its community. Programs such as offering free mammograms play a vital role in the early detection of breast cancer.
The UPCF grant will specifically increase the number of screenings for uninsured women in Stanly County. “These funds have helped improve the health of hundreds, if not thousands, of our neighbors,” said Executive Director Jane Boone.
Turning Point Inc.

Being a local nonprofit in Union County, Turning Point Inc. provides emergency and lifesaving resources for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. Through their mission, Turning Point Inc. exists to end domestic abuse, sexual assault, and child abuse with safe shelter, advocacy, prevention, and social change. “We wouldn’t exist, if we didn’t have a community to rally around us like we do,” said Executive Director Jessie Lindberg.
With this grant from UPCF, Turning Point plans to expand its counseling services for children and their families. By growing this service, children will learn that abuse is never their fault and begin to heal, reducing the long-term adverse effects of trauma.
